What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
As we continue our topic of Africa the children have explored african mud painting, creating patterns and painting animals. We have listened to different types of music from around the continent and looked at some of the different instruments.
In Maths, we have continued to look at what number comes before and after different numerals to 10. Our main focus has been the number before, as the children are finding this a little tricky.
Reception:
This week, Reception have had a brilliant week learning all about numbers to 20. We have been practising counting on from different numbers and also counting back to 0. W e have also been using our number knowledge to say which number is missing on a number line. In RE, we have been thinking about people who care for us. This week we have learnt all about priests and how they care and help us.
Year 1:
It has been such a busy week in Y1. It has been our Phonics Screening check and we've worked so hard. We have remembered to spot the special friends, Fred talk and then read the word. Miss Butt and Mrs Hatton are extremely proud of us! It has also been assessment week and we've completed Maths and Reading papers. They were quite tricky, but we didn't give up and kept trying our best. Well done Year 1!
Year 2:
This week, we have had our assessments, we have worked hard! We also played kick rounders, which was great fun. We thought about what it was like for a rich person living in a castle in History. In Science, we planted seeds and will observe them over time. We continued our work on E-safety in Computing. We designed our own stained-glass windows in RE, as we discussed why churches are important.
Next week, we will resume our usual lessons. In Maths, we will continue our statistics unit. In English, we will begin planning for our portal story. In History, we will learn about what life was like for a poor person living in a castle. Our week will finish with our trip to Tutbury Castle, we cannot wait!
Year 3:
Firstly, we would like to congratulate all the children who celebrated their First Holy Communion on Saturday. The children were reverent, exceptionally behaved and did everybody proud. Following on from this in RE, we have been reflecting on this special sacrament. This week, the children have been completing their end of year assessments in English and Maths. They have worked so hard and have put their full efforts into these tests.
Year 4:
We are incredibly proud of all the children in Year 4 this week. They have shown great resilience and determination as we have completed our assessment week. Thank you for the commitment you've shown towards learning the times tables needed for the multiplication check. In RE, we have explored the memorial acclamation. In Spanish, we have been learning about The Romans. We have explored technique in Art this week, in preparation for our main piece of artwork. Please make sure that you are using BOOM Reader, Spelling Shed and TTRockStars regularly.
Year 5:
This week, we have been doing assessments. It has been wonderful watching all pupils trying really hard and making lots of progress with their assessments. In Maths, we have continued learning about decimals and subtraction. We will continue this topic next week. In English, we have been revisiting some key grammatical features and using them to describe battle scenes. In Science, we have learnt about how burning is an irreversible change. Next week, we will be doing an experiment using vinegar! In History, we learnt about the reason why William the Conqueror won the Battle of Hastings. In RE, we learnt about the first martyr – St Stephen.
Year 6:
This week we have been trying to complete 25m in swimming. We have also started to learn songs for our production. In English, we're writing our hot task about discovering a fossil. In Reading, we have started a new book about parallel universes. We have also started a new project with British Gas about conserving energy. In RE, we have looked at our faith community. In PE, we have been practising rounders. In Science, we are starting a new topic about inheritance and variation.
