What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
Our final book about a bear is 'This is the Bear and the Picnic Lunch' by Sarah Hayes. We continue to spot, hear and say the rhyming strings in the story and we have also talked about how to make a sandwich following a set of instructions.
In Maths, we have been learning all about capacity, filling and emptying containers with porridge oats in the classroom and coloured water in the outdoor area using the language, full, empty, nearly full, nearly empty, half full, more, less.
Wishing you all a lovely half-term break.
Reception:
This week, Reception have had fun learning all about subtraction in Maths! We have been using the words 'first', 'then' and 'now' to tell our number stories and have used objects and pictures to find the answers. We have even been able to use our number facts to solve problems in our head! In RE, we have been writing our own prayers, as well as continuing to learn the Hail Mary.
Year 1:
In Year 1 we have been writing our hot task of a non-chronological report about Jamaica. We looked at features of a non-chronological report and discussed the names of each part. We thought carefully about the different sub-headings and tried to remember all the facts about Jamaica. In Maths, we have been looking at numbers to 100 and it has been really challenging. It has also been DT project week and we have had lots of fun trying different fruits and then made our own fruit kebabs. They were so yummy!!
Year 2:
This week we have continued to learn how to tell the time in Maths. We have looked at when it is past the hour and when it is to the hour. In English, we have written our hot task. We wrote letters to the other children at St Modwen's to persuade them to look after our environment by keeping our coastlines and oceans clean. We have also had DT week. Our project was to design and make a healthy sandwich to take to the beach for a picnic. We have really enjoyed this, especially taste-testing different breads.
Have a wonderful week off. When we return, we will begin a new text in English. In Maths, we will continue learning about time. In History, we will be learning about castles and knights.
Year 3:
Year 3 have thoroughly enjoyed DT week, where we used a syringe, tubing and a balloon to create a pneumatic toy. In Maths, we have been looking at statistics, especially focussing on pictograms. We have also been learning a maths rap as part of a competition for National Numeracy Day. In English, we are writing our hot task, which is a newspaper article based on The Secret of Black Rock. In RE, we are in our final stages of preparation for First Holy Communion and have been looking at the importance of Pentecost and the birth of the church.
Year 4:
We have had a great time during DT week. We considered what a balanced diet is and made our own pizzas, making sure that the toppings were balanced. We thought carefully about food hygiene and worked as a team to measure the ingredients and make the dough. In Maths, we have been learning about money and converting and comparing pounds and pence. Following our pizza making in DT, we wrote a recipe on how to make a pizza for our Hot Task in English.
We have had a continued focus on times tables this week, to prepare the children for their multiplication check in the first two weeks back after half-term. Please ensure that your child completes the pack provided over half-term, as well as practising on timestables.co.uk and TTRockstars.
Year 5:
This week, we have been finishing our hot task in English which has been based on a journey to the South Pole. In Maths, we have been studying symmetry and reflections. In Reading, we analysed character relationships. In Art, we finished our Monet inspired artwork and the results were stunning. Thank you Miss Innwood. We celebrated National Numeracy day on Wednesday and it was also DT week. We made wallets and purses. Mr Quinn and Miss Wright were very impressed with the sewing skills and resilience on show. Please spend some time reading and practising times tables during half time. Have a wonderful break.
