What we have been learning this week.....
Year 1:
This week, we have been working really hard in RE to retell the story of the call of the fisherman. We acted out the story and explained how the fishermen were the first disciples. In science we have continued investigating plants by naming wildflowers and garden plants. We are still enjoying our Jamaica topic and have learnt so much.
Year 2:
This week in year 2, we have started to look at time in Maths. We have learned to recognise when the clock is showing the hour (o'clock), when it is showing half past, quarter past and quarter to. In English, we learned how to use apostrophes for contraction and also wrote a wonderful description of the ocean. In PE, we practiced working cooperatively with other to achieve an outcome. We had great fun rolling hoops for our partner to throw beanbags through! In Art, we evaluated the final piece that we created last week. In RE, we looked at special celebrations and considered the different seasons and feasts that we celebrate.
Next week, we will be continuing our work on time in Maths. In English, we will be planning and writing our hot task, a persuasive letter. It is also DT week, so we look forward to working on our project throughout the week.
Year 3:
This week in year 3, we have been working out how to add, subtract and recognise the value of money in maths. In English, we have continued to look at the format of a newspaper article. In RE< we have finished our topic on the Eucharist and will now be starting work on Pentecost. In geography, we have strated our new topic on canals and waterways across Britain.
Year 4:
We have been observing the water cycle on the cress we have been growing this week. We have also investigated changing states using ice. During RE, we have discussed what a community is and how the church is so much more than a building. We have been comparing and ordering decimals in maths and we have been so impressed with how well the children have approached this. In PE, we practised our shooting skills during basketball. We have started our learning about recipes during English and have discussed fronted adverbials for time as well as imperative verbs. Next week, we will be writing out recipes for pizzas after creating our own as our DT project. The window for the times tables check is as soon as we return from the may half term break. It is of paramount importance that your child is spending time daily learning all of the tables up to 12x12. This is not just for the test but it is also an important skill for part of our maths learning. Timestables.co.uk as well as TTRockStars are two of our recommended websites. If you need any additional help with resources for times tables, please let us know.
Year 5:
This week in Year 5, we have studied angles, 3D shapes and coordinates in Maths. We will be looking at translation and symmetry next week. In English, we have been examining the use of figurative language and then using similes and personification in our own writing. In Reading, we have focused on retrieval and inference skills while reading our book - the Nowhere Emporium. In PE, we continued with our dance and tennis lessons. In Art, we completed our Monet inspired 'Water lilies.' The final pieces are inspirational and a credited to Miss Innwood. In RE, we have been looking at prayers to the Holy Spirit. In Geography, we studied tourism and debated the advantages and disadvantages.
