What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week the children have been reading 'Whatever Next!' by Jill Murphy. They are beginning to hear and recall the missing words at the end of each sentence during re- telling of the story, and we are continuing with segmenting and blending CVC words in our phonics lessons. The children took part in the procession for Mary, and we were all very proud of how prayerful the children were. Thank you for all your kind donations of flowers and plants.
In Maths, we are learning about the properties of 2D shapes. We will be building on this next week when we learn about 3D shapes.
Reception:
This week Reception have started reading a new story - 'What the Ladybird Heard'. We have enjoyed making story maps and using the talk for writing vocabulary. In Maths, we have been thinking about odd and even numbers. We have amazed our teachers by being able to sort numbers and explain why they are odd or even. In RE, we have been continuing our learning on prayer, focussing on the Hail Mary as we are thinking about Mary during the month of May.
Year 1:
This week, we have been writing our Hot Task and we really enjoyed it. We wrote a diary entry, from Jehvon's perspective, about our holiday to Jamaica. We remembered everything in our toolkit, like capital letters for names and places, as well as interesting adjectives. We also remembered all the characters' names in the book and used a capital letter for their name. In Maths, we have been finding a half of an amount and used lots of practical equipment to help us. We really impressed our visitors who came into our Maths lesson.
Year 2:
This week, we looked at fractions in Maths. We learnt how many equal parts there are for halves, quarters and thirds. In English, we have been writing and editing our warning stories. In Geography, we discovered what man-made and physical features we can find on the coastlines of the UK. We have also enjoyed a golf lesson and gymnastics. On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have glorious sunshine for the May procession for Mary.
Next week, we will be looking at a poem in English. In Art, we will use the skills we have learnt to create a piece of digital art. We will also be continuing our work on fractions in Maths. Enjoy the Bank Holiday Weekend!
Year 3:
In Year 3, we have been writing our Hot Task based on The Green Ship, all about finding a magical object. In Reading, we have been working on our summarising skills. In Science, we have started our new topic on magnets, using magnets to test their strength when picking up paper clips. In PE, we have had specialist tennis and golf coaches in this week to teach us some new skills. In Maths, we have moved onto our new topic about angles, shapes and position. In RE, we have been focusing on the importance of the Liturgy of the Eucharist during Mass.
Year 4:
We have had a great week in Year 4. We have been dividing a 1-digit number by 10 in Maths. We went onto the playground and created place value grids to help us understand what happens when we divide a number by 10. In Geography, we found out about different volcanoes. We have used emotive language during our English learning this week. Our final piece on art is beginning to take place and we have been using different pencil techniques to create a piece inspired by Leonardo Di Vinci. In RE, we write diaries from the perspective of the disciples.
Year 5:
This week we have studied measuring angles with a protractor. Next week, we will be learning how to calculate missing angles. In English, we have been writing a biography about Ernest Shackleton. Next week, we will be learning about journey narratives and exploring poetry about Polar Exploration. In Science, we experimented with dissolving materials and, in RE, we started our Pentecost unit.

In RE, we have looked at how it is possible to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. In PE, we practised front rolls in gymnastics. In English, we have practised grammar and punctuation.
