What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
We have continued our learning of Bears by finishing the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. The children were very excited to find out what was in the cave. They have sequenced the story in pictures and have also created a story map to support recall.
In Maths, we have been learning about ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ and making towers using new language to compare them. We have explored matching a quantity of objects to numerals up to 5.
Reception:
This week we had an amazing time on our school trip to the Adventure Farm. We enjoyed our workshop all about plants and even got to plant our own seeds. The children said that it was 'the best day ever' and we were all so proud of their behaviour throughout the whole trip. The children have also been using this experience to produce some wonderful writing and have even drawn a story map showing the events of the day.
Year 1:
This week, in English, we have been learning how to spell the days of the week. It was really tricky to remember the different rules for each day. In Maths, we have been developing our understanding by sharing into equal groups. We used the multi-link cubes to share equally and orally rehearsed the stem sentences with our Maths partners. In Geography, we wrote a postcard to our friends and family from Jamaica. We told them all about the culture, food and music. It was great! It was also our Mass this week. As a class, we looked over the readings and responses.
Year 2:
This week we have been learning how to divide by sharing. In English, we have learnt how to use apostrophes for possession. In Geography, we began our new unit on beaches and coastlines by looking at what a coastline is. We had another visitor this week too! Barbara from CAFOD told us all about the work that the charity does and we discussed how we could care for those in need.
Next week, we will be planning and writing our warning story. In Maths, we will be learning about fractions. We will be creating pictures using shapes in our Digital Art lesson.
Year 3:
We were delighted to welcome the children and their families who are taking their First Holy Communion into school on Tuesday evening to take part in our final workshop. In RE, we have started our topic on the Eucharist, discussing the importance of celebrating Mass and why saying, Thank you' means a lot to God. In English, we have been looking at different ways to start a sentence as we prepare for our Hot Task next week. In PE, we have continued to enjoy tennis and gymnastics lessons. In Maths, we have continued our topic on time, in particular working out durations. Finally, in History, we have been researching Egyptian gods and goddesses and comparing their religion to our own.
Year 4:
This week we have been learning about tenths as decimals and fractions. In RE, we have been thinking about Jesus' ascension and how Jesus is still with us today. We wrote a prayer about Jesus' presence with us today, and we also thought about how the apostles felt and what they thought when they saw Jesus ascending up into heaven. In Science, we have been exploring the particles in the different states of matter, as well as how the states of matter change through melting and freezing. As usual, we have had a big focus on timetables to help us to prepare for the multiplication check next half-term. Please help your child at home by encouraging them to practice their timestables on timestables.co.uk and timestables rockstars.
Year 5:
This week, we have been measuring angles using protractors in Maths. In English, we have been using apostrophes for possession and have been working on uplevelling vocabulary choices. In Reading, we have finished our work on 'The Highway Man', and we will be starting our new book, 'The Nowhere Emporium', next week. This week, we went on our amazing school trip to the Space Centre. We learnt lots about space travel, our solar system and enjoyed standing in a real rocket!
Year 6:
This week Year 6 have been working extremely hard as we head towards SATs week. In English, we have been writing our own ‘disaster’ stories. In Reading, we have been practising poetry comprehension. In Maths, we have been measuring angles and learning about shapes. In RE, we have been putting ourselves into the shoes of Thomas and thinking about his reaction to the risen Jesus. In PE, we have played rugby.
